Why some months have 5 paychecks
A calendar year is 52 weeks plus one leftover day — two in a leap year. That drift means your payday weekday slowly marches across the calendar, and any month that ends up containing five of that weekday gives you a fifth paycheck. Over a full year it happens four times (or five times in a 53-week year), spaced roughly every three months.
Because it's tied to your payday, a generic list can be wrong for you — being paid on Friday versus Monday shifts which months are the bonus ones. A federal-holiday shift can nudge a check into a different month too, which is exactly the kind of detail hand-counting misses.
